Celeb-Inspired Holiday Dresses

Celeb-Inspired Holiday Dresses

by Katrina Mitzeliotis

‘Tis the season for a slew of holiday parties! Whether you’re getting together with friends and family or colleagues, I’m sure your social calendar is jam-packed. While it does require some thought, holiday parties are also the perfect excuse to show off a hot new trend, straight from the red carpet! Read on for a report on the hottest red carpet trends and incorporate the looks into your wardrobe with my tips and picks!

Sequins:

From Kristen Stewart to Elizabeth Hurley and Emma Stone, the sparkling trend has really ruled the red carpet lately — and it’s so festive! Whether you’re getting together with friends or heading out for New Year’s Eve festivities, you’re sure to standout if you’re showing off a little sequin.

Style T1711129M1

Maroon/Oxblood:

Nothing says holiday quite like a red dress — and considering it’s right on trend this season you seriously can’t go wrong! Stars of all ages and with varying body types have worked the trend, including Leighton Meester, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Elizabeth Banks and Chloe Moretz. I recommend sticking to a classic style, because it’s a dress you can easily wear year after year.

Style 011198510

Lace:

The feminine trend seems so appropriate for holiday, and there’s so many different ways to wear it. If you aren’t comfortable with the idea of full-on lace, you can opt for a frock with lace detailing, like the one below. Thanks to the classic color and modest neckline, it’s appropriate for a variety of occasions.

Style T2731208M1

You can also glam up your basic little black dress and incorporate the look with your accessories! Box clutches are a staple on the red carpet this season, and this option can easily dress up any look.

Style HB446

Peplum:

Whether you want to create the illusion of a fuller frame or are hoping to conceal a few areas, a peplum can work wonders — and it adds such a trendy vibe to your whole look. This is another style that works so well for a variety of occasions, and it’s so popular on the red carpet. From glam gowns to streamlined sheaths, peplum has popped up everywhere, (and on everyone), including Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett and Jessica Alba, (to name a few).

Bridesmaid Dresses

Once the Bride-to-be, or the Bride and Groom (although in my experience, most men would rather leave this task to their fiancee) has decided on the style and tone of the wedding, one of the next decisions to be made is the style and length of the bridesmaids dresses.

These days, almost any length, style and fabric seems to “go”, although fabrics with a strong or floral pattern are not as popular as they were twenty years ago, there are still some brides who like the look of floral fabrics.

Bridesmaids in Pink

When I got married, the rule was that Bridesmaid’s Dresses should match each other, either they could all be identical ….. or they should be the same style, but could be different colours, or, they should be the same colour, but could be different styles

Tea Length Taffeta Bridesmaids DressThe Fuchsia colored dresses shown above are the same colour, but are different styles, each dress suiting the figure and style of the individual Bridesmaid, and they go together beautifully.

The Tea Length Taffeta Bridesmaids dress shown on the left, is elegant and charming for either a Church wedding or a Garden ceremony.

A floor length dress, such as the Strapless Sweetheart Neckline Long Bridesmaid’s Dresses shown below, would be perfectly suitable for a Church wedding, and has just the right tone for a more formal ceremony.

If you are planning a Beach or Garden wedding, or any informal ceremony, then the bridesmaids dresses can be either long or short.

Strapless Sweetheart Neckline Long Bridesmaid Dress

A rule of thumb is as follows:  If the Bride is wearing a Long Wedding Dress, then the Bridesmaids can wear long or short dresses

If the Bride is wearing a Short Wedding Dress, then the Bridesmaids should also wear short dresses.

The Maid or Matron of Honour (Maid of Honour if she is single, Matron of Honour if she is married) may wear an identical dress to the other bridesmaids, or the Bride may wish her to wear a dress that is slightly different, to reflect her more important role in the ceremony.

The Satin full length dresses shown on the right, would be perfect for two Bridesmaids and the Maid of Honor.

Whether you choose long or short dresses for your Bridesmaids, remember to select gowns that will be comfortable for them to wear, so they can dance the night away at your Wedding Reception!

Happy Wedding!

Back in Fashion – the Blusher Veil

Blusher Veil Headpiece with Blusher Veil

We are so delighted to see the resurgence of the beautiful and elegant Wedding accessory, the Blusher Veil

These were very popular in the 1920's and 1930's and are now regaining their rightful place in the Wedding Fashion industry.

Sometimes called a Russian Birdcage Veil or French Netting Veil, and held in place by a comb, these beautiful and refined headpieces are suitable for a Bride to wear for a Vintage inspired look, or for the Mother of the Bride or Groom, for an elegant and sophisticated finishing touch.

This is a great accessory for a Wedding where the Bride does not wish to wear a Traditional Bridal Veil, but rather wants something special.

This type of headpiece could also be worn for an elegant Wedding Vow Renewal ceremony where a Bridal Veil would not be appropriate.

You may recall this veil from the Movie “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, where Jessica Alba, playing Sue Storm, delighted the audience with this fabulous double veil combination.

Blusher Veil

With her face modestly covered with the net veil, combined with the long sheer wedding veil behind.  This was so beautiful!  When worn this way, you can remove the back veil and wear the birdcage veil as a pouf during your Wedding reception.

Usually made with French Netting, Feathers and Rhinestones or Swarovski Crystals, these lovely items have a timeless elegance which lends itself to the modern wedding so beautifully, and after being overlooked for decades, the Birdcage Veil is poised and ready to make a huge comeback!

So, if you are looking for a Vintage look for your wedding, or a non-traditional veil, perhaps a Birdcage or Blusher Veil might be for you!

Happy Wedding!

Wedding Vow Renewal Gowns

Empire Line Bateau Neckline Tulle Wedding GownIf you are planning a Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony to celebrate a landmark anniversary, or to re-dedicate yourselves to each other, as a married couple this event can be very special and meaningful, to you and to your whole family.

If you can, include the members of your family in the occasion – perhaps one of your children or grand-children could give a Reading or lead a Prayer during the ceremony.

Your ceremony can be as individual and romantic as you like, perhaps including the prayers and music from your original Wedding ceremony, or you could have new wedding rings blessed during the service.

Pictured left is a white and gold Tulle Empire Line Gown which would be suitable for a Wedding Gown Renewal Ceremony.

When you are deciding what to wear, there are several things to consider before purchasing your special dress – how formal your service will be, will it be formal or casual, and where will it take place.  Tea Length Mother of the Bride or Vow Renewal

For a Wedding Vow Renewal ceremony, many women choose a suit or dress which is informal, perhaps in a colour other than white  – Ivory, Champagne or a pastel colours are wonderful choices.

And here on the right, is a lovely suit, suitable for an elegant Vow Renewal – this Knee Length Outfit is beautiful and sets just the right tone for such a special occasion.

For the Renewal of Vows, a veil is normally not worn, however, the woman may wish to wear a pretty head-peice or hat which matches her gown.

The ceremony can take place in a Church, Chapel, in your garden at home, at a Banquet Hall or anywhere you like!

Empire Line Tulle Wedding DressYou may arrange for a Priest of Pastor to perform the ceremony, however, this isn’t necessary as, unlike a Wedding, there is no paperwork to complete, so you can even ask a friend or family member to officiate!

For a ceremony in your Church or Temple, a more formal gown or dress would be suitable, such as this Empire Line Tulle Gown shown at left.

Ultimately, the choice of length and style of your gown should reflect the type of ceremony you will be having – for an informal, outdoor or afternoon ceremony, a Tea Length dress or simple gown would be suitable.

Do make sure that your gown, and the ceremony, reflect your taste and personality – you should be comfortable in your dress and don’t forget ….. have fun ….. and many more years of Wedded Bliss!

Destination Wedding Dresses

Charming Strapless Chiffon Beach Wedding Dress If you are planning a summer 2013 Beach or Destination Wedding, now is the time to select your Wedding Dress.

Many Brides are looking for Beach Style Wedding Dresses, as many couples choose a romantic Destination Wedding, a ceremony in the Garden or at the Beach, or in the Islands ….

Whether your wedding is on the beach in the Caribbean, or in your parents’ garden, there are beautiful Wedding Dresses available in an assortment of styles and fabrics.

Although there is nothing specific that makes a Wedding Gown a Beach Style Wedding Dress, they are usually a simple dress, with soft fabric, and more casual than a dress for a Church Wedding Ceremony.

Empire Line Tea Length Wedding Dress

The Charming Strapless Gown shown above is made of softly draped Chiffon wedding fabric and is elegant and beautiful and would be lovely for a Beach Wedding.

What might be taken into consideration for your Beach wedding, would be to select a gown which will not blow around too much if there were a breeze on the beach.

Either floor length, tea length, mini-dress or a high-low Wedding Dress, it is its relaxed fit and comfort, combined with its simplicity, which make a dress a Beach style Gown.

These Wedding Dresses come in all fabrics including Satin, Chiffon, Lace and Organza, with lend themselves to a comfortable, relaxed fit which is suitable for the laid-back, bare-foot atmosphere of a Wedding at the Beach.

Lace over Satin Halter Neckline Wedding Dress

This Tea Length Wedding Dress, shown above, is casual and comfortable and perfectly suitable for an informal Beach Wedding.

The gown shown on the right is a comfortable Lace over Satin Dress with a halter neckline and would be suitable for a Summer Garden Wedding, an intimate Chapel Ceremony or a Wedding Vow renewal Ceremony, or any wedding where the Bride doesn’t wish to wear a formal, traditional Wedding Gown.

The Beach Wedding Dress is gaining in popularity each year and more may be seen here.

Happy Wedding!

A-Line Wedding Gown

Available in almost any wedding fabric, the classic A-Line gown flatters most body types.

Referred to as A Line because it’s shape resembles an upper case “A” with a fitted bodice and a skirt which flows outward from the waist.

Here, on the left, you can see a strapless A-Line Satin Wedding Gown which has pretty beading on the bodice and from which the classic skirt and train fall gracefully to the floor.

Taffeta and Lace Wedding DressThis style can emphasize a small waist, or down play a large bosom or hips and is flattering to most body shapes.

This gown has a corset style lace-up back which ensures a perfect fit, even if the bride has lost a few pounds on her pre-wedding diet!

On the right you can see another example of the A Line Wedding dress, and this one is made of Taffeta and Lace wedding fabric.

These simple, yet elegant bridal gowns emphasize a woman’s feminine shape without being overtly sexual.

This style of gown looks flattering on most women.

The strapless gown on the right has pretty detailing under the bosom, and an asymmetrical design with just a little lace peeping out from under the taffeta skirt.Off the Shoulder Satin Bridal Gown

The Off the Shoulder Bridal Gown shown on the left, also falls into the A-Line category and has off-the-shoulder styling and a cut-away skirt which shows the charming embroidery beneath.

This beautiful wedding dress shows this Bride’s feminine figure to perfection while at the same time, not showing too much and keeping the Bride modestly clothed.

Although other styles come and go in popularity, the Princess A-Line style has always remained a favourite of Brides everywhere.

You will find a wide selection of A-Line Wedding Dresses on the market, in a range of styles and prices.

Happy Wedding!
