Bridesmaid Dresses

Once the Bride-to-be, or the Bride and Groom (although in my experience, most men would rather leave this task to their fiancee) has decided on the style and tone of the wedding, one of the next decisions to be made is the style and length of the bridesmaids dresses.

These days, almost any length, style and fabric seems to “go”, although fabrics with a strong or floral pattern are not as popular as they were twenty years ago, there are still some brides who like the look of floral fabrics.

When I got married, the rule was that Bridesmaid’s Dresses should match each other, either they could all be identical ….. or they should be the same style, but could be different colours, or, they should be the same colour, but could be different styles

The Fuchsia colored dresses shown above are the same colour, but are different styles, each dress suiting the figure and style of the individual Bridesmaid, and they go together beautifully.

The Tea Length Taffeta Bridesmaids dress shown on the left, is elegant and charming for either a Church wedding or a Garden ceremony.

A floor length dress, such as the Strapless Sweetheart Neckline Long Bridesmaid’s Dresses shown below, would be perfectly suitable for a Church wedding, and has just the right tone for a more formal ceremony.

If you are planning a Beach or Garden wedding, or any informal ceremony, then the bridesmaids dresses can be either long or short. 

A rule of thumb is as follows:  If the Bride is wearing a Long Wedding Dress, then the Bridesmaids can wear long or short dresses

If the Bride is wearing a Short Wedding Dress, then the Bridesmaids should also wear short dresses.

The Maid or Matron of Honour (Maid of Honour if she is single, Matron of Honour if she is married) may wear an identical dress to the other bridesmaids, or the Bride may wish her to wear a dress that is slightly different, to reflect her more important role in the ceremony.

The Satin full length dresses shown on the right, would be perfect for two Bridesmaids and the Maid of Honor.

Whether you choose long or short dresses for your Bridesmaids, remember to select gowns that will be comfortable for them to wear, so they can dance the night away at your Wedding Reception!

Back in Fashion – the Blusher Veil

We are so delighted to see the resurgence of the beautiful and elegant Wedding accessory, the Blusher Veil

These were very popular in the 1920's and 1930's and are now regaining their rightful place in the Wedding Fashion industry.

Sometimes called a Russian Birdcage Veil or French Netting Veil, and held in place by a comb, these beautiful and refined headpieces are suitable for a Bride to wear for a Vintage inspired look, or for the Mother of the Bride or Groom, for an elegant and sophisticated finishing touch.

This is a great accessory for a Wedding where the Bride does not wish to wear a Traditional Bridal Veil, but rather wants something special.

This type of headpiece could also be worn for an elegant Wedding Vow Renewal ceremony where a Bridal Veil would not be appropriate.

You may recall this veil from the Movie “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, where Jessica Alba, playing Sue Storm, delighted the audience with this fabulous double veil combination.   

With her face modestly covered with the net veil, combined with the long sheer wedding veil behind.  This was so beautiful!  When worn this way, you can remove the back veil and wear the birdcage veil as a pouf during your Wedding reception.

Usually made with French Netting, Feathers and Rhinestones or Swarovski Crystals, these lovely items have a timeless elegance which lends itself to the modern wedding so beautifully, and after being overlooked for decades, the Birdcage Veil is poised and ready to make a huge comeback!

So, if you are looking for a Vintage look for your wedding, or a non-traditional veil, perhaps a Birdcage or Blusher Veil might be for you!

Wedding Vow Renewal Gowns

If you are planning a Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony to celebrate a landmark anniversary, or to re-dedicate yourselves to each other, as a married couple this event can be very special and meaningful, to you and to your whole family.

If you can, include the members of your family in the occasion – perhaps one of your children or grand-children could give a Reading or lead a Prayer during the ceremony.

Your ceremony can be as individual and romantic as you like, perhaps including the prayers and music from your original Wedding ceremony, or you could have new wedding rings blessed during the service.

Pictured left is a white and gold Tulle Empire Line Gown which would be suitable for a Wedding Gown Renewal Ceremony.

When you are deciding what to wear, there are several things to consider before purchasing your special dress – how formal your service will be, will it be formal or casual, and where will it take place. 

For a Wedding Vow Renewal ceremony, many women choose a suit or dress which is informal, perhaps in a colour other than white  – Ivory, Champagne or a pastel colours are wonderful choices.

And here on the right, is a lovely suit, suitable for an elegant Vow Renewal – this Knee Length Outfit is beautiful and sets just the right tone for such a special occasion.

For the Renewal of Vows, a veil is normally not worn, however, the woman may wish to wear a pretty head-peice or hat which matches her gown.

The ceremony can take place in a Church, Chapel, in your garden at home, at a Banquet Hall or anywhere you like!

You may arrange for a Priest of Pastor to perform the ceremony, however, this isn’t necessary as, unlike a Wedding, there is no paperwork to complete, so you can even ask a friend or family member to officiate!

For a ceremony in your Church or Temple, a more formal gown or dress would be suitable, such as this Empire Line Tulle Gown shown at left.

Ultimately, the choice of length and style of your gown should reflect the type of ceremony you will be having – for an informal, outdoor or afternoon ceremony, a Tea Length dress or simple gown would be suitable.

Do make sure that your gown, and the ceremony, reflect your taste and personality – you should be comfortable in your dress and don’t forget ….. have fun ….. and many more years of Wedded Bliss!

Destination Wedding Dresses

If you are planning a summer 2013 Beach or Destination Wedding, now is the time to select your Wedding Dress.

Many Brides are looking for Beach Style Wedding Dresses, as many couples choose a romantic Destination Wedding, a ceremony in the Garden or at the Beach, or in the Islands ….

The gown shown on the right is a comfortable Lace over Satin Dress with a halter neckline and would be suitable for a Summer Garden Wedding, an intimate Chapel Ceremony or a Wedding Vow renewal Ceremony, or any wedding where the Bride doesn’t wish to wear a formal, traditional Wedding Gown.
